Getting started
- Open Speed Alert LA and allow location access when asked.
- Tap Play Test Alert to check the volume. Connect to your car first if you want alerts through the car speakers.
- Before you set off, tap Start Drive. Then use any maps app you like.
- When you arrive, tap End Drive.
No alert played
- Was a drive running? Alerts play only after Start Drive. Force-quitting the app stops monitoring.
- Is location set to Precise? iOS Settings → Speed Alert LA → Location: choose While Using the App and turn on Precise Location.
- Is the volume up? Use Settings → Test Alert Sound in the app, with your car connected if you use car audio.
- Were you on the camera’s street? Alerts are for camera zones on the road you are driving, ahead of you. Cameras on cross streets and parallel roads stay quiet on purpose.
A camera location looks wrong
Camera locations come from LADOT’s official list and are placed at the start and end of each monitored street segment, so a camera may be anywhere in between. If something looks wrong, email us with the street and cross streets.
Choosing a voice
Settings → Voice lists the voices installed on your iPhone. For the most natural sound, download an Enhanced or Premium voice in iOS Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices, then pick it in the app.
Subscription
Speed Alert LA Premium unlocks alerts during real drives: $9.99 a month with seven days free, or $99.99 a year. The map, camera list, guide and demo drive are free.
Restore Purchases in the app’s Settings brings back a subscription after reinstalling or on a new iPhone signed in to the same Apple Account. To cancel or change a plan, use iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
Refunds
All purchases go through Apple, and only Apple can issue a refund. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
CarPlay
Alerts play through your car speakers when your iPhone is connected with CarPlay or Bluetooth. Speed Alert LA does not have its own CarPlay screen.
Requirements
iPhone running iOS 17 or newer.
